According to locals, the broken equipment has delayed over 500 scheduled surgeries, including emergency procedures, over the past several weeks. Patients are now being referred to SMHS and SKIMS Soura hospitals, despite having been initially advised to undergo treatment at DH Ganderbal.

Growing Frustration Among Patients

“Why should we be referred to other hospitals when DH Ganderbal is supposed to handle these surgeries? It’s disappointing,” said Bilal Ahmad, a local resident.

“If a single machine takes weeks to repair, what does that say about healthcare preparedness in other hospitals?” asked Sameer Ahmad, another local.

Residents also pointed out the irony of the situation, as Ganderbal is the constituency of the Chief Minister, and yet, basic medical infrastructure is failing.

Hospital Authorities Respond

When contacted by Newsly Wire, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Bashir Ahmad acknowledged the problem and assured that repair work is underway.

“The issue is being handled on a priority basis. The anaesthesia machine will be repaired and fully functional in the coming days,” he stated.

Public Demands Backup Plans and Accountability

Locals are demanding the provision of backup anaesthesia units in district hospitals to prevent such crises in the future. They’ve also called upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene and ensure swift resolution of the issue. Source KNO

As the healthcare delay continues, patient frustration and suffering escalate in Ganderbal. Newsly Wire will continue to track the developments and public response.
